Celebrate Songkran at Kata Rocks Phuket

Songkran Celebrations - Celebrate Songkran festival at Kata Rocks Phuket

Kata Rocks is serving a sumptuous Songkran lunch or dinner set menu from 13 to 15 April that promises to be a feast of exotic flavours at its Oceanfront Bar and Restaurant.

We invite you to treat your family and friends to a spectacular meal while enjoying panoramic views of the Andaman Sea next to our 35-metre infinity swimming pool.

Our talented culinary team will be serving a traditional selection of popular Thai Songkran dishes, starting with two tasty Thai appetisers – fried spring rolls and pomelo salad. Next comes Tom Kha Gai, a chicken coconut soup with galangal, mushrooms, coriander and lime juice; Penang red curry with fresh prawns, coconut milk, kaffir lime leaves; stir fried vegetables in oyster sauce and steamed rice. For dessert, a selection of traditional Songkran desserts and fresh seasonal fruit completes the feast.

Songkran revelry in Phuket is unique and relatively tame compared to some other regions in Thailand. Unless you’re staying in a major tourist enclave like Patong, or other beach resort towns that have entertainment areas, the water throwing ritual lasts only one day. It begins harmlessly enough but by lunch streets are packed with pickup trucks loaded with water containers splashing onlookers who line the side of the road shooting back; this year it falls on Thursday 13 April.

One thing is certain, unless you stay in your room or residence you will get very, very wet. The good news is basic precautions help avoid putting a serious damper on what is one of Thailand’s most exciting day. Only take waterproof gear outside, wear inexpensive clothing, avoid riding a motorbike for obvious reasons and don’t expect to get anywhere in a hurry as traffic is very slow. Finally protect your skin from the blazing sun by wearing sunscreen and re-applying it regularly as it will wash off during extended water battles.

Kata Rocks’ special Songkran lunch or dinner is priced at THB 1,800++ per person, please contact +66 (076) 370 777 or dining@katarocks.com for information and reservations.
